The design for The Tinker originated from Amor Towles’s ‘Rules of Civility,’ a novel that plots the improbable yet true serendipity of the lives of people in their twenties living in the tricky world of 1930s Manhattan.  The hotel’s design mainly references the period referred to as American ‘Streamline’ Art Deco, featuring curved forms and long, horizontal lines.   Though The Tinker remains true to its Art Deco history, the hotel is designed to feel distinctly set in the present day; the use of period pieces and textiles is offset with the prevalent simplicity of lines and color palettes of today’s design aesthetic.  A combination of modern, classic furniture, and period pieces create a dialogue between a recollected architectural past and contemporary works of art.
